Quick Hits: Subban contract, Gionta talks, Draft day trades and more

Here are some quick hits,

According to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN and TSN, Marc Bergevin and company were expected to meet with Subban’s agent today. LeBrun also reports that Gionta and Weaver are still in conversation with the Habs but are also talking with other teams at this time.

“Expectation was that Don Meehan and Newport Sports were going to meet with Habs brass today on PK Subban…”

Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports says Brian Gionta is expected to talk to other teams but will also circle back and speak to Marc Bergevin by the end of the day.

“Brian Gionta agent, Steve Bartlett expect to talk to a few teams today. He’ll have a discussion after with Marc Bergevin.”

As per Anton Thun, Dave Bolland’s agent, about 20 teams have called in inquiring about his client. A source suggests that the Canadiens are not one of the 20 teams.

The Montreal Canadiens would like to sign a bridge type contract with RFA Lars Eller, according to a source. A qualifying offer for Lars Eller would be around $1.5 million according to Capgeek.com, Eller would probably be looking for at least $2 million per season.

A source also tells TheHabsNation that the Montreal Canadiens have contacted UFA Matt Moulson along with potentially 10-15 other teams.

As per Arpon Basu of LNH.com (NHL.com) Marc Bergevin wanted to get Markov signed before June 25th courting period.

“Marc Bergevin admitted that in the Andrei Markov negotiation he wanted to avoid reaching June 25 when Markov could see what was out there”

Some more rumors floating around that the Canadiens would like to trade Daniel Briere, although it would be difficult for the Habs to move him because of his age, salary and his no movement clause and no trade clause.
