In today’s edition of the Thursday Report,

P.K. Subban contract negotiations will resume after the season as Subban said he wants to focus on the games right now. Subban is asking for 8 years at $8.5 million according to a source. Don’t expect to see a heavily front loaded deal that Shea Weber got probably something similar but not as much for sure.

Habs captain Brian Gionta will also wait until after the season to discuss a new contract and his future in Montreal. There were reports around deadline that the Habs offered Gionta a contract but according to another report there was no talk between the Gionta and the Habs. The plan initially was to wait for the season to end before talking extension.

Pierre Lebrun shared on TSN’s Insider Trading that Thomas Vanek’s plan to go to free agency come July 1st hasn’t changed even though he really likes Montreal. Vanek previously told the Buffalo Sabres and New York Islanders that he wanted to test free agency, but has not officially or formally told the Habs this yet.

Word is the Habs are not very high on this year’s college free agent class, although that doesn’t mean they won’t sign a college free agent between now and the summer. According to Bob McKenzie they are looking at the highly touted right-handed defender Christian Folin, but aren’t the only team chasing him. They also have a couple of their own college prospects to look at such as (D Mac Bennett, as I was preparing this signed a two-year deal), F Mark MacMillan, F Mike Cichy, D Colin Sullivan and D Josiah Didier.

According to the Denver Post the Montreal Canadiens have decided not to sign college prospect Josiah Didier and will not ask him to leave college to play in the AHL. They also did this with defenseman Mac Bennett who played his final year with the University of Michigan this season.

The Hamilton Bulldogs have announced that they have signed college free agent forward Nick Sorkin to a professional try-out offer. Sorkin, 22, put up 41 points (20 goals, 21 assists) in 41 games while playing in his 4th year with the University of New Hampshire. Sorkin is listed at 6’3″ 185lbs has tallied 98 points in 142 games during his NCCA hockey career with New Hampshire.

Also prospect Artturi Lehkonen has officially signed with the Frolunda Indians of the SHL (Swedish Hockey League). As reported in early March here on TheHabsNation that Lehkonen would join the Indians it was just a matter of when.
