Habs get Thomas Vanek and Conditional 5th Pick from the Islanders

The Montreal Canadiens have made a huge splash late in the trade deadline by acquiring Thomas Vanek. The Habs sent prospect Sebastian Collberg and a conditional 2nd round draft pick (2014) to the New York Islanders in exchange for the 30-year-old veteran sniper and a conditional 5th round draft pick (2014). In addition to these players and picks involved the Islanders will be retaining 20% of Vanek’s salary.

The Canadiens have acquired right winger Thomas Vanek from the New York Islanders and a conditional fifth round pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft in return for Sebastian Collberg and a conditional second round pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

In 60 games this season with the Sabres and the Islanders, the 30 year-old has put up 21 goals and 32 assists for a total of 53 points.

Vanek, 6’0″, 217lb, will be an unrestricted free agent at season’s end.
