Canadiens Listening to Offers on Markov
According to James Murphy of XN Sports (partnered with the Chicago Tribune, Boston Herald and USA Today Sports) the Montreal Canadiens are listening to offers on Andrei Markov.
The Canadiens still have ongoing contract negotiations with 35-year-old veteran who will become a UFA on July 1st if not signed, although the most recent news from the Habs and Markov is that the Canadiens are open to resigning him as well as he is willing to stay in Montreal.
Other reports from ESPN and TSN radio speculated that the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks were rumored to be interested in Andrei Markov’s services, but nothing has been officially confirmed.
The Habs will likely ask for a roster player as well as a solid prospect or 1st/2nd round draft pick depending on the roster player in return for Andrei Markov. Rumors out of Los Angeles from ESPN stated that the Habs asked for forwards Kyle Clifford and Tanner Pearson along with a 1st round pick.
The only way we see Markov moved realistically is if they can’t get any solid contract negotiations going or the Habs fall out of a playoff spot and decide to move some aging parts out in exchange for young blood.
