Diaz Contract Negotiations “ongoing”

The Montreal Canadiens continue contract negotiations with defenseman Raphael Diaz, who is in his last year of his 2 year $2.45 million deal. The Fourth Period reports that the negotiations are “ongoing” between the two sides and Diaz could earn north of $2 million per year.

Diaz’s agent, Don Meehan, who also represents Subban along with Mark Guy of Newport Sports Management, told TFP Editor-in-Chief David Pagnotta on Monday that talks are “ongoing” with the Canadiens.

Negotiations may have been slowed down recently due to all the trade talk surrounding the Canadiens, which may have involved the Swiss defenseman.

Negotiations are expected to continue throughout the season until deal is reached or until it has become clear that an extension is not in the cards.
